Ultimate Guide: Mummies
The
Ultimate Guide to Mummies travels through England, Scotland, Egypt,
Peru and the USA to answer the historical and scientific questions at
the heart of mummification.
Using archive, graphics and dramatic reconstructions, the film takes us
back 5,000 years to the Ancient Egyptians, to the Iron Age peat bogs of
England and takes us forward to the future of digital immortality in
the USA.
We explore the story of Egyptian mummification from the first naturally
preserved sand mummies, the ill-fated early mud-brick tombs to the
complex rituals involved in the embalming of Pharaohs. By the
nineteenth century, the exploitation and abuse of mummies was rife
which we illustrate through the illicit activities of tomb-robbers.
